Hi! We’re Danny, Jaclyn, Ewan, and Salem Brown.
We’re your hosts at A Downsized Life, sharing our adventures and lessons as we look to simplify our lives and – hopefully – help you do the same.
In the winter of 2019, we moved from the busy city life that was Burlington in Southern Ontario, Canada, to the small town of Port Sydney. This relocation north came about for a variety of reasons:
- Both my wife and I have lived in large cities pretty much all our adult lives, and wanted a change
- We have a cottage in the area, and have fallen in love with the peace and tranquility
- To destress and enjoy life the way it’s meant to be lived – with family, laughter, love, and simplicity
From our experiences at the cottage, and the people we met as a result, the decision to move up here became a simple one.
However, there were still concerns as we contemplated the change, not least how it would affect the kids, who had made a settled life at the elementary school they were at in Burlington.
Additionally, downsizing our home from a detached home on three levels to a bungalow brought about its own challenges. And then there was the question of how we’d make our jobs work, when moving three plus hours away from our previous home.
A Downsized Life charts these challenges, and shares how we overcame them, or worked around them. It also shares lessons learned, ongoing challenges, and how all of that can (hopefully) help you downsize your own life, if that’s something you’re considering.
We promise to be honest and open about all of our experiences, good and bad. And, who knows, maybe we can share some laughs together along the way!
Danny, Jaclyn, Ewan, and Salem.
